AI Human Oversight Initiative

The People Building AI are among the most intelligent people in the World , but intelligence and Wisdom are not the same thing.

AN OPEN LETTER TO WORLD LEADERS

Taking the Artificial out of Intelligence™

October 8, 2026

Dear World Leaders,

I write not as a representative of any nation, political party, or institution, but as a citizen of the world concerned about the future we all share.

Artificial intelligence offers extraordinary promise. But the pursuit of systems that could equal or surpass human intelligence is advancing faster than our ability to agree on what those systems are, how to evaluate them, or who will be accountable if they cause irreversible harm. Humanity should not enter that future by default.

I respectfully urge you to establish a permanent, internationally coordinated, enforceable prohibition on the development and deployment of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and Artificial Superintelligence (ASI). These technologies must be clearly defined in a binding international agreement, with independent verification and meaningful accountability.

At a minimum, AGI should mean AI capable of performing a broad range of intellectual tasks at or above human level, including adapting to unfamiliar problems. ASI should mean AI that substantially exceeds the most capable humans across virtually all cognitive domains. These definitions should be refined through an open international process—not left to individual companies or governments.

This is not a plea to abandon scientific progress. It is a plea to govern its most consequential frontier before decisions become irreversible. No company, country, or generation should be permitted to gamble with the future of all humanity without its informed consent.

Please act together, and act now. The world deserves a voice before the world is changed beyond recognition.

Respectfully,

What is AI Governance?

AI Governance refers to the frameworks and processes that ensure AI systems are used responsibly, ethically, and transparently, maintaining human oversight and trust.

How can organizations maintain control over AI?

Organizations can maintain control over AI by implementing robust governance frameworks, ensuring transparency in AI decision-making, and fostering a culture of accountability among stakeholders.

What should employees do if their jobs are affected by AI?

Employees should seek to upskill and reskill, focusing on areas where human oversight is essential, and engage in continuous learning to adapt to the evolving job landscape influenced by AI.

What role do experts play in AI governance?

Experts contribute to AI governance by providing insights, developing ethical guidelines, and ensuring that AI technologies align with societal values and legal standards.

How can trust be built in AI systems?

Trust in AI systems can be built through transparency, consistent communication, user education, and demonstrating the reliability and fairness of AI outcomes.
